Since seeding is the first step for the growth and control of plants, a new process and a technique for seed coating and a coating apparatus are introduced to increase the germinating ratio in the precision seeding of vegetables. Three kinds of food additives are selected as a coating material considering the safety for food. Sodium alginate (3% density) is considered to be the most suitable material for the coating and the seeding processes. The hardening agent used was calcium chloride. An experimental seed coating apparatus, with double cylindrical nozzles, demonstrated good results. We are now in the process of constructing the prototype of a practical and automatic seed-coating machine
