Specimens representing apparently land-locked population of the salmonid fish, Salvelinus leucomaenis (Pallas) were collected from the Gokase and Ono river systems, Kyushu, southern Japan, although S. leucomaenis is not generally distributed throughout Kyushu. The two rivers populations were limited but appeared to be self-reproducing. S. leucomaenis in the gokase river are thought to have been originally transported from Toyama Prefecture in 1971-1972 by the local aquaculture company, Akimoto Suisan Co., Ltd. The charr probably escaped that company's rearing pool. However, the longer term residence of S. leucomaenis in the Ono river is apparent from a description of the species made in 1925, according to local people. In fact, the species may have been seemed to be well established before but there also remains the possibility that the species was initially introduced
