"Based on oceanographic data collected during the past three decades in semi-closed Ise Bay along the Pacific coast of central Japan, interannual variations in water temperature, salinity, phytoplankton pigment (chl. a) concentration and macro-zooplankton biomass (wet weights) were examined in relation to a large meander of the Kuroshio Current axis. The oceanographic conditions showed remarkable interannual variations. Then, the oceanographic conditions in the bay were compared between A-type (large meander paths) and N-type (straight paths) periods of the Kuroshio axis. However, we could not detect any significant correlation between variations in the oceanographic conditions in the bay and the Kuroshio axis, though significant correlations were indicated for the oceanographic conditions confined to the mouth area of the bay."
