The time-dependent behavior of clayey soils are considered in this study, and very simple model is applied to the consolidation behavior including secondary consolidation. The model parameters are identified easily from the observed behavior. The separate type interconnected consolidation apparatus is usually employed to investigate the stain and the pore water pressure inside the consolidation specimens. In this study, the time-dependent behavior is observed with use of the experimental equipment, in which three consolidation cells are interconnected. The height of specimen is 2 cm in each cell, and the kaolin clay and the Kasaoka marine clay are employed as experimental materials. It was clarified from the experimental results that the strain rate does not affect seriously on the consolidation behavior except the specimen of the drainage surface. Finally, the simple model based on the elastic theory and viscous model for the secondary consolidation was applied, and consequently, the experimental time-settlement behaviors were simulated well with the proposed model.
