Arai, T.(National Inst. of Fruit Tree Science, Morioka (Japan). Apple Research Station)
The seasonal prevalence of the emergence of adult male San Jose scale, Diaspidiotus perniciosus, in an apple orchard was investigated from 2004 to 2006 using pheromone traps. Adult males of the overwintering generation emerged from mid May to early June, and the first-generation males emerged from late July to mid August. When the accumulated temperatures reached 303 degree days above 10.5 deg C from the peak of the emergence of the overwintering generation adults, the occurrence of first-generation crawlers peaked.
