Yield and quality of old seedling and young clonal tea under different rehabilitation methods and fertilizers
1994
Mwakha, E.
Four rehabilitation methods for old seedling tea were evaluated under different fertilizer types over two pruning cycles. Seedling tea failed to respond to both enriched organic manure and compound NPKS fertilizer. Rejuvenation pruned old seedling tea interplanted with clonal tea and replanted clonal tea gave positive yield response to both enriched organic manure and compound fertilizer. But clonal tea recovery from pruning was adversely affected by the manure and fertilizer applications at 200kg N/ha/year. Normal pruned seedling tea significantly outyielded rejuvenation pruned seedling tea interplanted with clone 31/8 and the replanted pure stand clonal tea. Depending on the taster, clonal tea had relatively superior quality while the non-fertilized tea and that receiving enriched organic manure were rated high in quality
