Tea pruning for yield improvement
1997
Nwakha, E.
Tea pruning, though responsible for reduction in yield in the year it is done, it is necessary for subsequent green leaf production restoration. Formative pruning prepares the young tea bush frame into an expansive plucking table, while normal pruning lowers the overgrown table to a manageable plucking height. The main factors which affect tea yields in the year of prune are pruning height, method and timing. Whereas the first two factors are well understood, the experimental results on timing of pruning in Kenya remain controversial. It is suggested that both time and site replicated experiments on timing of pruning be initiated to generate reliable results.
