The geology of the volcanic structure of Salina de Pedra Lume, Sal island, Cape Verde is described on the basis of field work and petrographic and mineralogical data. It corresponds to a crater of phreatic/phreatomagmatic explosion, about 1100 m diameter on the base. It was generated in subaerial scoriae, lapilli and lava flows of porphyritic olivine-nephelinites/melanephelinites frequently including melilite and perovskite as well as olivine-melabasaltic rocks, from the "Formacao do Monte Grande - Pedra Lume" of Plistocenic age
