Tveldten, I. | Girvan, L. | Maasdorp, M. | Pomuti, A. | van Rooy, G.
The study assesses the socio-economic aspects of freshwater fisheries in Namibia. After providing a description of the context of freshwater fisheries in sub-Saharan Africa, the study gives a detailed assessment of freshwater fishery and management systems in the Caprivi and Okavango, Kunene, Cuvelai and Orange River. The fishery of state dams and aquaculture is briefly described. Drawing on the information obtained, and on existing government policies related to natural resource management, guidelines for a freshwater fishery management policy are discussed.
