Yangtze Water Resources Protection Bureau | Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electrical | Engineering Wuhan, China | ChangJiang Water Resources Commission Hunan | Hydropower Design Institute Canadian International Project | Managers Joint Venture
The scope of the environmental assessment (EA) includes the Jiangya reservoir subproject covering the construction region, innundation region, resettled region, and downstream region of the dam; the drainage subproject covering the drained region and the water receiving region; and the irrigation subproject covering the irrigated region and the lower reaches below water source. The result of the EA of the project shows that the project will have huge economic, social and environmental benefits. Among the adverse effects, some can be mitigated by taking proper measures and the others are acceptable to the environment. The EA assesses the environmental impacts on: 1) topography, land use, local climate, hydrologic regime and sedimentation, water temperature and quality, mineral resources, terrestrial flora and fauna, aquatic biota, public health, resettlement, and dam safety for the Jiangya reservoir subproject; 2) increased drainage capacity and flood control, epidemic of schistosomiasis, and resettlement for the four-lake drainage subproject; and 3) water source, water way, irrigation regions, and downstream regions for the irrigation subprojects.
