Mexico - Irrigation Rehabilitation Project
Armitage, Jane | Neto, Joao | Harbison, Ralph | Holsinger, Donald | Leite, Raimundo
The Mexican Irrigation Rehabilitation Project consists of the rehabilitation and completion of existing irrigation works on 580,000 hectares. The work will be done over a period of three years starting early in 1961. The cost of the public works is estimated at pesos 512 million (US$41 million). An additional private investment in on-farm drainage and improvement estimated at pesos 305 million (US$24 million) will also be needed to take full advantage of the public works. Bank finance would cover the foreign exchange component of the costs of the public works--about 35 percent of public costs. The balance of the public cost would be met by the Government. The private investment would be financed from the farmers' own resources and from credit from government and commercial banks.
