Philippines - Manila Metropolitan Water Supply Project
Kopp, Raymond J.
The Manila Metropolitan Water Supply Project for Philippines will assist in financing the improvement of the water system for Manila and its suburbs. The present water system serving the Manila area is the outgrowth of a system built in the latter part of the nineteenth century. It was designed to meet the water requirements of one million people. However, the population of the Manila area has grown rapidly to over two million people since World War II. This rapid growth has imposed a water demand requirement on the system with which it has been to unable manage. The project will alleviate this problem by: 1) constructing new supply works; 2) making additions to current treatment facilities; and 3) improving the distribution system. These new developments will increase the water supply in order to meet current consumer needs in Manila and its suburbs.
