The Public Health Engineering Department in Aijmer, Rajasthan, has privatized the operation and maintenance of the filtration plant, pipelines, and pumping stations of the new water supply scheme from Bisalpur Dam. This has reduced labor management problems, decreased time taken for repairs, and resulted in substantial savings in the operation and maintenance cost for the Public Health Engineering Department. Consumers also benefit from a better maintained, and more reliable drinking water service. This is one of the examples of private sector participation in the management of urban water supply in India.
