Structural adjustment in Lao PDR

This Precis entitled, Structural adjustment in Lao PDR, complements the Bank's Operations and Evaluation Department (OED), Performance audit report, Lao Peoples' Democratic Republic : Structural adjustment credit (SAC) projects (1) and (2), Report No. 14810, dated June 30, 1995. The audit finds that the SAC program was less successful in meeting its institutional development, legal, and regulatory objectives, particularly those attempted during SAC (2). In many cases, the policy elements progressed smoothly while the procedures and directives needed to make them operational met with obstacles.
