Facing the Global Environment is a forum about broad issues, and developments in the Bank ' s global environment work. In addition to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) portfolio review, the report reflects the Bank ' s collaboration with GEF to integrate global environmental concerns, into the regular Bank portrfolio of projects and sector work. This progress report theme is the GEF restructuring and replenishment. On March 14-16 in Geneva, representatives from 73 countries ended a year-long series of negotiations with agreement on the restructuring and replenishment of GEF. A new governance structure was established, comprised of an Assembly and a Council, supported and serviced by a functionally independent Secretariat. Responsibility for deliberations of the Council will be shared between a Chairperson elected from its members and the Chief executive / Chairperson of the facility. The Council is schedule to hold its first meeting on July 12-13, 1994
