The Additional Financing for the Southern African Power Market Project for Zambia aims to facilitate the development of an efficient regional power market which will: (i) decelerate the increase of electricity prices in the Southern African development community countries through increased competition; and (ii) increase industrial competitiveness of the region. Negative measures include: soil erosion, rivers, surface water and ground water, vegetation, air and ambient noise level, and fauna. Mitigation measures include: a) do not use machinery to clear slopping land; b) preserve grassy strata and roots; c) have absorbents of site incase of hydrocarbon spills; d) maintain machinery at least 100 m from rivers; e) prohibit workers from harvesting; f) prohibit workers from hunting; g) use machinery that is in a good operating condition; and g) make the cute arborescent vegetation available to villages near the line route.
