The objectives of the Taiyuan Urban Transport Project for China are: (i) putting forward the environmental monitoring program in construction and operation periods; and (ii) to ensure effective implementation of the environmental mitigation measures and deals with the unexpected or gusty environmental problems in time. Negative measures include: land requisition and immigrant settlement, construction noise, construction dust, pollution of surface water, air pollution, wastewater pollution, and traffic. Mitigation measures include: (i) further optimize selection of location, reduce the influence to nearby resident as could as possible, decrease requisitioned land area; (ii) the road building should be done within the red line as can as possible, the piled soil and material should not intrude the adjacent farming land; (iii) reasonably balance the earthwork dug and filled, the temporary storing point of abandoned soil should be protected and earthwork job during rain, preventing loss of water and soil and pollution of waters by sewage; (iv) the construction wastewater contained a mass of sand and oil should be treated before discharging. It is strictly prohibited to drain it directly in surface waters; (v) the oil smoke must be discharged via flue at high altitude after treated through purifying device; and (vi) strictly control the main noise sources (e.g. boiler, air compressor and etc.), put forward the requirement of noise control to the equipment manufacturer.
