The Interafrican Electrical Engineering College (IEEC) : proposals for the short and long term development
Hunting, Gordon | Zymelman, Manuel | Godfrey, Martin
The objectives of the IEEC are to create and train electro-mechanical engineers in Africa where they become proficient at working on utility plant problems specific to the African environment, to provide a graduate engineer who is immediately useful to his/her sponsoring industry, and to develop an attitude of inter-regional cooperation by ensuring that students from many African countries are educated together and that they are bilingual. This report identifies actions which are aimed at securing growth of the IEEC. The most pressing goal is to secure a five-year degree course. The report also proposes the establishment of research field centers, in cooperation with other universities and electric power equipment manufactures, to identify and investigate the real problems of the electricity sub-sector. Twelve proposed actions are reviewed and the explanatory sections of the report which lead up to them should be viewed as the catalyst for the development of more ideas and actions. In addition, this report recommends additional grant funding from international aid agencies to enable the school to obtain financial self-sufficiency.
