Malaria : new patterns and perspectives
Najera, Jose A. | Liese, Bernhard H. | Hammer, Jeffrey
Malaria is a collective name for different diseases that may result from infection of any parasites of the genus plasmodium. The characteristics of the disease vary with the intensity of the infection, the host's level of immunity, the adequacy of and opportunity for treatment, and the parasite's susceptibility to it. This report gives a brief history of malaria as a disease, followed by a review of the public health significance of malaria. The report also examines malaria control, the costs associated with the control, the priorities (human resources development and vaccine development), and research on malaria.
