China - Qinba Mountains Poverty Reduction Project

This report is an environmental assessment of the Qinba Mountains Poverty Reduction Project. The project will reduce overall poverty in the Qinba area through: labor mobility; rural infrastructure; land and farmer development; township and village enterprise development; micro-finance; and institution building and poverty monitoring. Main environmental impacts followed by mitigation measures are: a) land occupation, destruction of local vegetation and soil erosion- lessened by site location; b) waste residue - used as feed stuff where possible; c) dust pollution - closed production wherever possible; d) noise pollution; - refrain from explosions at night; e) waste water increase - handled by settling basin and other equipment; f) waste gas production - mitigated by site placement; and g) some effect on local sanitation and epidemic prevention - mitigated by burying organic garbage.
