Bolivia - Participatory Rural Investment Project
John, Joshua
The Participatory Rural Investment Project for Bolivia aims to promote economic development of rural municipalities and communities through sustainable productive investments based on local demand with participatory planing processes. There are two components. The first, Rural Investments, finances consulting services for pre-investment studies, and works, goods, and equipment for pre-investment subprojects. It improves access roads and builds and rehabilitates bridges, builds small-scale irrigation systems; sets up markets and produce storage facilities, makes river embankment improvements, provides technical assistance to rural producers, and finances cultural heritage rehabilitation as well as other minor works identified by municipalities and communities. The second component, Institutional Strengthening, funds 1) technical assistance to municipalities, indigenous districts, rural communities and nongovernmental organizations in municipal management, participatory planning and implementation; 2) formal and non-formal training of staff and community participants; and 3) consultants, office equipment, vehicles, and operating costs for vice-ministries and development funds.
