The Punjab Flood Protection and Drainage Project in India will provide financing for flood protection and surface drainage in the State of Punjab. This project consistsof construction of embankments and other flood protection works along the banks of Rivers Beas, Sutlej, Juina, Ghaggar and other rivers; the canalizing and training of choes and nallahs (torrents); the excavation of drainage channels and the construction of associated works such as syphons, culverts, bridges, regulators and tributary drains. This project will provide the prevention of flood damage to crops, buildings and transportation facilities, and of an increase in crop yields in areas given adequate surface drainage.
