The performance of crosses of Mari with Athenais barley in drylands
1992
Hadjichristodoulou, A. (Agricultural Res. Inst. Nicosia (Cyprus))
Mari, a two-row early Swedish variety, was crossed extensively with the six-row variety Athenais, which has been grown in Cyprus for 40 years. Though the aim was to produce varieties earlier than Athenais, the crosses were not earlier than Athenais. Nevertheless, some crosses gave slighly higher yield than Athenais and proved useful in programmes for barley growing in drylands.
