Studies on soybean injurious insects and efficiency of certain insecticides and their combinations with two insect growth regulators on these insects [Egypt]

Field studies were carried out in soybean plantations to study the abundance of the main insect pests and to determine the efficacy and local application of three selected insecticides, and their combinations with two IGR's, against certain soybean insect pests. The results indicate that fifteen injurious insect species affiliated to five orders were recorded during the period from the middle of June till the middle of September 1987. The total number of these insects swept during this period was 9096 individuals, of which order Homoptera represented about 74.60%. The dominant species infesting soybean in Mansoura region were Aphis craccivora kok, Aphis gossypii Glover, Bemisia tabaci (Gennandius), Empoasca lybica de Berg, Spodoptera littoralis Boisd., Spodoptera exigua Hbn., Cosmlyce baeticus L. and Nezara viridula L. The present data show that treatments with Fenitrothion, Fenvalerate and their combinations with the two insect growth regulators Diflubenzuron and Chlorfluazuron were highly effective against Homopterous insects. However Methomyl, and its combinations were less effective against Homopterous insects while they were highly effective against lepidopterous ones. These compounds were also highly effective against hemipterous and thysanopterous species. The present results, however, indicated clearly the importance of mixing the acute insecticides with insect growth regulators for controlling soybean insect pests.
