Stem rust. Puccinia graminis tritici, is one of the most important wheat diseases. The effect of inoculation at tillering, booting and heading stages on yield components of two wheat varieties (Sakha 8 and Sakha 79) was studied. The time of inoculation influenced the infection, being very severe at tillering stage as compared with other stage or with the protected checks, which showed the least rust infection. The disease significantly reduced the yield/ plot, 1000 kernel weight and test weight as compared with the protected plants. The yield components of Sakha 79 were more reduced than those of Sakha 8 which seemed to be more tolerant. Statistical analysis was made and the predicted equations for 1000 kernel weight and test weight for these varieties in two seasons were obtained
