2009
Ismail, H. | El-Nahari, H.
The present study aimed to determine the protective and therapeutic effect of ginseng on the relationship between pituitary gland and testis in male rats treated with carbon tetrachloride CCL,. The experiments were conducted on a group of white male rats, them weight ranged from (150-200gm). Ginseng root extracts were injected in the peritoneal cavity of rats at a dose of 100mg or 200mg/ kg/day. The animals were divided into six groups as follows: the first group (6 rats) was injected with ginseng extract roots The second group (6 rats) was injected with CC14 0.1mg/150g in the peritoneal cavity for a week. The third group(12 rats) was injected with CC14 0.l.mg/150g for a week then this group was divided into two sub- groups of 6 rats each, the first was injected with 100mg and the other was injected with 200mg ginseng/kg respectively, for one week The fourth group (12 rats) was injected with CC14 0.lmg/150g for one week, then this group was divided into two sub groups of 6 rats the first was injected with 100mg and the other was injected with 200mg ginseng/kg respectively , for two weeks. The fifth group (12 rat) was injected with CC14 at a dose of O.Img/150g for on week, then was divided into two sub- groups of 6 rats each the first was injected with 100mg and other was injected with 200mg ginseng/kg respectively for three weeks. The sixth group was divided into two sub- groups, each group consisted of 6 rats first was injected with 100mg and the other was injected with 200mg/kg of ginseng extract respectively for three weeks before treatment with CCl4 for one week, to evaluate the protective role of ginseng. Blood serum was collected to determine follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone. Histological examination of testis was performed. Results of this study showed that reduction in the level of FSH, LH and significant decrease in testosterone hormone after treatment with CCl4. Treatment with panax ginseng at doses of 100mg and 200mg/kg returned the level of FSHLH and testosterone to their normal level. These results revealed the therapeutic role of panax ginseng. Histological examination of testis after treatement with CC14 showed marked pathological changes in testicular tissue, while the treatment with 100mg and 200mg/kg panax ginseng after treatement with CCL\} showed improvement in the appearance of testis structure. This study showed that treatment of panax ginseng after and before treatement with CC14 have therapeutic and protective role on rats testes.
