Social problems of the rural family in an Egyptian village

Despite the centrality of rural family , it has been facing a variety of problems.Those problems stem mainly from the rapid social changes taking place in the society.Social problems in this study are defined to be condition that have negative impacts of the performance of rural families. The approach of this study is to include a list of problems in the study and to take the rural family as the unit of analysis suffering from the problems included identifying the similarities and dissimilarities between the degree of problem suffering by husbands and wives in the families identifying the clustering of problem suffering as indicated by factor analysis and assessing the relationships between certain family traits and problem suffering.The village of El-Monshaah el-Kobra , Kalleen county ,Kafr elshikh govemorate was chosen for the study.A sample of 243 two-spouse families was selected and data were collected from the husband and wife by a pair of different sex interviewers at the same time but in two separate rooms in the family dwelling. Collected data were then coded and analyzed. The most important findings of the study may are: -Lack of job opportunities is the top social problem facing rural families, followed by lack of social security problems of ownership contact with governmental agencies and the problem of education ,in that order. Husbands and wives report similar assessments of suffering from the seven problems of housing, housing environment , education , health safety, youth, and kinship Wives report greater suffering from the problems of income marketing , marital relations and socialization. Husbands report greater suffering from the seven problems of veterinary services, entertainment ,lack of jobs, ownership , services social security, and contact with government agencies. Factor analysis showed that problem suffering is structured along five distinct factors. The independent variables of age difference , duration of marriage, level of family dwelling , ownership of home appliances , size of farm land holding , and size of farm animal holding are selectively related to problem suffering. family size is totally not related to problem suffering.
