Ethyl 5-(4-chlorophenyl)- 2H-tetrazol-2-acetate (PP528) was sprayed in early summer or "Anna" apple and "Le Cont" pear seedlings at concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 ppm. Hand tipping treatment stimulated only 2 to 3 branches with narrow angles near the point of dicapitation on both "Anna" and "Le Cont" seedlings. Terminal meristems on both "Anna" and "Le Cont" seedlings were not killed with single or double sprays of 50 ppm, while these terminals were killed with single or double applications of 100 and 150 ppm of pp528. Low concentration of 50 ppm significantly produced more branches with wide angles than the control and hand tipping treatment. When terminal meristems were killed with single or double sprays of 100 and 150 ppm, both "Anna" and "Le Cont" seedlings produced the best branching as compared to all other treatments. of 100 and 150 ppm of PP528.
