Evaluation of herbicides for the control of Bromus in wheat
1998
Giref Sahile (IAR, Addis Abeba (Ethiopia))
Five grass herbicides were evaluated for the control of Bromus under field conditions at Bekoji (2785 m.a.s.l.) in 1995. In 1966, the trail was repeated with another set of five herbicides in pots. Initially, the on farm experimental results have shown that the level of control of the grass weed, achieved by the test chemicals, at the rates used, was unsatisfactory. The best treatment with Ethiozin offering only 39 percent control. The follow up test, conducted under glass-house conditions, revealed that Ethiozin at rates 1.2 kg a.i/ha and above was safe resulting in 100 percent control of Bromus. Based on the results it can be infered that Ethiozin could be of potential for use against Bromus in wheat.
