Of all methods and means known so far for the control of coccidiosis in chickens maybe the only real alternative of chemioprophylaxis is immunoprophylaxis. Intensive research is conducted for the elucidation of the anti-gene composition of the individual species and stages of coccidiae development and for preparing vaccines from killed, alive virulent or attenuated immerial lines, or by a bioengineering way. Despite the considerable achievements in the various directions, it is considered that before immunoprophylaxis replaces the application of medicinal substances and becomes routine practice in poultry breeding a number of difficult problems have still to be solved. Until then the control of coccidiosis will continue to be based on chemical prophylaxis.
