The damages on the fruit buds of 16 plum cultivars in a result of unusually and continued a long time low temperatures were determined in the Dryanovo region situated in the Central Balkan mountains. With the least cold resistance is the cultivar Chachanska lepotitsa with 65,1% frost bite of the fruit buds. The cultivars Althan's Gage and Opal are with a little cold resistance of the fruit buds. The plum cultivars Stanley, Hramova renkloda, Tuleu timpuriu and Gabrovska are with a middle degree of cold resistance of the fruit buds. With comparatively a high degree of a cold resistance of the fruit buds it emerged the plum cultivars Jalta butilkovidna, Ontario, Anna Schpett and Strinava and with higher degree have determined the cultivars Malvazinka, Guliaeva and Nevena. The plum cultivars Mirabelle de Nancy and Pacific distinctive with the most resistance of the fruit buds to winter frost, it was established very low percent of frost bite – about 5%. The plum cultivars Strinava, Guliaeva and Nevena, selected in the Plum Experimental Station in the town of Dryanovo confirmed an important element of their biologic characteristics – very good cold resistance of the fruit buds to prolonged low winter temperatures, what determined them as very suitable for growing and propagation in the Central Balkan mountain region.
