Bioremediation came up recently as a technological alternative for cleaning polluted soils and aquifers. The process takes place thanks to the microorganisms metabolic capacity to mineralize or transform organic pollutants into simpler compounds. Among the available options to clean polluted sites, bioremediation is the best both from environmental and economic standpoints; nevertheless, it cannot be applied in all cases.
