In this paper we described the generalized form of pox infection in laying poultry. The main characteristics of the disease were low morbidity and mortality rate, apparent clinical signs, and characteristic proliferative skin lesions on the mucous membranes of the mouth. Additionaly, the flock was infected with red fowl mite Dermanyssus gallinae, which has been implicated in the faster spread of the pox virus. Histopathology, in skin lesions proliferation of keratinocytes with signs of cell swelling and ballooning degeneration were noted. Characteristic eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Bollinger bodies) were detected by light microscopy in infected cells. In this case on the basis of patomorphological finding pox infection was diagnosed, and we could supposed, that it was infection with high virulent strain of pox virus.
