Excessive water abstraction is the main cause of water shortages in some parts of the world.That is why the reuse of purified communal water, which has proven to be a successfulprocedure, is being considered in Europe and abroad. The main obstacles to the spread of thispractice in the EU are limited awareness of the potential benefits and lack of a comprehensiveframework for water reuse. For these reasons, the Commission proposed in 2018 a Regulationthat encourages the reuse of water when it is cost-effective and safe for health and theenvironment. The paper uses the method of content analysis in order to present therequirements that the Regulation sets.
