Fodder beet in cattle fattening

The effect of replacement of grain feed with fodder beet on growth of fattening bulls was observed. In the beginning of the experiment the bulls were divided into 3 groups. All groups were fed grass silage and meadow hay, except the 1st group that fed grain feed, in the 2nd group a half of feed ration was substituted with fodder beet and in the 3rd group the whole ration was substituted with fodder beet. The bulls in groups reached the following daily weight gains (for 171 days): the 1st group 885 g, the 2nd 973 g and the 3rd group 911 g. The differences between groups were not statistically significant. Based on the results it is recommended to feed as much fodder beet that will cover 25-50 percent of daily energy need of fattening cattle.
