Macrozoobenthos of the glacial lakes in the Low Tatras (West Carpathians): Aquatic insects

The temporal macrozoobenthos fauna was investigated in four glacial lakes in the Low Tatras (Slovakia). Altogether 24 taxa of acquatic insects were recorded. The chironomids were most numerous with 18 taxa while Trichoptera were represented by 3, Coleoptera by 2 and Plecoptera by 1 taxa. Comparing the presented results with investigations carried out in 1983-1987, a smaller number of taxa was recorded. In addition, some acid sensitive species were not found. It can be assumed that the investigated lakes have undergone acidification during the last few years
