The influence of the soil-water regime on the crop production is very important. For that reason it is important to know characteristics of soil-water regime during vegetation period of plants. The simulation models are very often used for this purpose and water retention curve belongs to the most significant input. The experimental measurement of the water retention curve is laborious, times consuming and costly. Therefore, general estimates based on more readily available information such as soil texture, are sufficient. The apparent relationships between the water retention curves and soil textures have led to the formulation of pedotransfer functions which were used to the calculation of the water retention curve for the simulation model GLOBAL. The main point of this task was to present the differences between characteristics of the soil-water regime estimated by measured water retention curve and by the water retention curve calculated by pedotransfer functions. There were presented the soil moistures and soil-water storage for both simulated case: for the directly measured water retention curve and for the water retention curve calculated by pedotransfer functions. There were found close agreements because of the calculated regression coefficient is R = 0,79. The differences are at average about 2,2-3,7%. The evaluated characteristics are in close agreement and therefore the water retention curves calculated by pedotransfer functions can be used for the simulation of the processes in unsaturated soil
