Influence of different soil tillage technologies on energy balance of crop rotation

Different soil tillage technologies were examined in years 2001–2005 in soil conditions of the medium-heavy Haplic Luvisol. The treatments were carried out in natural field conditions with three-soil tillage treatments: conventional tillage, reduced tillage and minimum tillage. The influence of these soil tillage methods on the energy balance of winter wheat, spring barley, maize, and common pea + white mustard (as intercrop) and red clover were tested. Average inputs of the supplementary energy in the production process of selected field crops were quantified. The minimum tillage treatment required the minimum amount of supplementary energy. Maize has the highest requirements on the inputs of the additive energy during vegetation. The energy values of the crop yields were as follows: winter wheat 96.42–107.40 GJ per ha, spring barley 55.82–70.05 GJ per ha, maize 149.4–177.6 GJ per ha, common pea with filling of intercrops 112.03–144.42 GJ per ha and red clover 72.13–83.58 GJ per ha. The values of the energy efficiency coefficients of all tested crops for evaluated soil tillage treatments ranged from 6.51 to 22.32.
