In the paper we evaluated tree ring widths of four provenances of Norway spruce (Picea abies septentrionalis Svob.) from a provenance trial established in 1965 in Arboretum Borová Hora (TU Zvolen). For the analysis, two provenances of both largest and smallest mean diameter were selected. The minimum value of mean tree ring width was reached by the provenance 117 - Russian climatype (2.32 mm) and the maximum value by the provenance 133 - Ob climatype (4.32 mm). The analysis has confirmed a higher variability of tree ring widths for the slower growing provenances in comparison to the faster growing ones. The largest diameter of provenance 133 is the result of a steady radial growth as well as of high increments at the beginning of investigated period. A more steady growth of this provenance was confirmed by several characteristics as the unimodal distribution of relative ring widths, the higher value of mean sensitivity, the lower r of the l st order autocorrelation and of the linear correlation between the ring width and year. The lowest value of regression coefficient of provenance 133 proves the slowest decrease of mean tree ring width with the increasing age.
