The article deals with the influence of thermal modification and particle size of spruce wood on the ignition temperature of dust cloud assessment. There were used two kinds of samples: thermally unmodified sample and thermally modified sample according to ThermoWood – Thermo-S programme (maximum temperature during the thermal modification was 190 °C). There were investig ated three fraction of both unmodified and modified spruce wood: dust with particles size less than 71 μm, dust with particles size from 71 to 150 μm and dust with particles size from 150 to 200 μm. The ignition temperatures of investigated dust clouds were determined by the means and testing procedure according to STN EN 50281-2-1:200 2 at three samples mass (0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 g) and three air pressures (20, 30 and 50 kPa). The water content of investigated samples was 0 % wt. The influence of thermal modification and dust particles size on ignition temperature of dust clouds was assessed by Duncan ́s test. The results obtained by Duncan ́s test show that dust particles size has a significant influence while the thermal modification has only negligible influence on dust cloud ignition temperature. The minimum ignition temperature of both thermally unmodified (420 °C) and thermally modified (410 °C) samples were determined for dust cloud formed by particles with dimensions less than 71μm at 0.5 g sample mass and 50 kPa air pressure.
