The situation of gastrointestinal round worm infection in horses in Thai-Nguyen and Bac-Can provinces

After examining 1970 horse faeces selected from different local regions and identifying the round worm samples collected from 28 opered horses in Thai nguyen and Bac Can provinces, the authoss estimated that there were 13 species of Nematoda parasting in the digestive tract of horses. They consisted of Habronema muscae, Habronema micro.S'toma and Drascheia megastoma parasiting in the horse stomac; Parascaris equorum and Strongyloides westri parasiting in the hone small intestin: Strongylus equinus, Delafondia vulgaris, Alfortia edentatus, Triodentophorus rerratus, Trichonema longybursatum, Trichonema catinatum and Cylicocyclus nassatum parasiting in the horse large intestin and caecum. The horses of different ages were infected by these round worm species with high rates and indensities in the ecological areas of Thai N guyen and Bac Can provinces. In realizing several experimental uses of 5 anthelminthics to remove out theses round worm species, the authoss reported that Ivermectin with dosage of 0,2 fig/kg body weight (b.w.) Mebendazole with dosage of 10mg/kg b. w.; Oxfendazole with dosage of 10mg/kg b.w.; Levamisol with dosage of 8mg/kg b.w. and Exehlfi II vith dosage of 10mg/kg b.w. were very effective to treat Parascaris equorum, Oxyuris equi with high rate (100 percent). The round worms species belonging to Strongylida order were also removed out by Ivermectin with dosage of 0,2mg/kg b.w. with high proportion (100 percent). Other anthelminthic had low effect to treat the Strongylida species (60-80 percent)
