Use of low calcine rock phosphate to increase crop yield [tested in corn (Zea mays) in Thailand]

Low temperature calcination is considered to be a simple and economic method in improving availability of rock phosphate. In this study, rock phosphate from Amphoe Mae Tha, Province of Lamphun was ground to fineness passing a 100 mesh B.S. sieve, and calcined at 200, 400, 550, 700 and 900 deg C for two hours. The chemical analyses showed no differences of the phosphate availability of calcined rock phosphate at 200, 400 and 500 deg C when compared to raw rock phosphate. The calcination at 700 and 900 deg C resulted in lower phosphate availability of rock phosphate. The pot experiment using the calcined rock phosphate of various temperature and raw rock phosphate as sources of phosphorus fertilizers showed no significant differences on yield and the uptake of phosphorus of corn
