Diallel analysis of progenies from six cultivars of sesame, viz. Sisaket Pb Til No. 1, TC 16, TMV 1, T 5021 and T 6022 showed significant general combining ability (gca) variance in seed yield, days to flowering, plant height, number of primary branches, length of primary branch, capsule length, days to maturity and 1,000-seed weight. Variance due to specific combining ability (sca) was significant in seed yield and 1,000-seed weight. Difference between reciprocal crosses was observed, indicating maternal effect on seed yield, plant height and 1,000-seed weight. The ratio of gca: sca indicated that additive gene action was more prominent than non-additive ones in most characters. Estimates of gca effect revealed that T 5021 and T 6022 were good general combiners for increasing seed yield Pb Til No. 1 and TC 16 for decreasing days to flowering; TMV 1 for increasing plant height and length of primary branch; TMV 1 and T 6022 for increasing number of primary branches; Sisaket, Pb Til No. 1 and TC 16 for increasing capsule length; TC 16 for decreasing days to maturity and Pb Til No. 1, TMV 1 and TC 16 for increasing 1,000-seed weight. The correlation between yield and yield components showed that number of primary branches was positively correlated with yield. However days to flowering, number of capsules per plant and plant height should also be used in selecting good sesame genotypes
