Study on the species and evaluation of native figs [Ficus spp.] on the highland of Doi Suthep-Pui, Chiang Mai (province in northern Thailand)

The area included in this study started had elevations of 700 to 1,600 meters above sea level. Specimens of native figs were collected and their general characteristics and habitat were noted. Each native fig was identified and analyzed by taxonomical comparison. Evaluation was made on the horticultural value of each species, namely vegetable, fruit, ornamental and medicinal value, based from its general characteristics and quality as well as local reports on its use. Twenty one species of native figs were found, 17 species of which were trees and shrubs while 4 species were climbers. Eight species were used as vegetable; 6 species as fruit; 20 species as ornamental plants and 6 species as medicinal remedies
