Reaction of sugarcane varieties to smut and red Rot disease

Disease resistance is one of the important characters available in parent selection for sugarcane breeding program. One hundred and sixty two sugarcane varieties in germplasm collection were tested for smut and red rot reaction. The result showed that 20 varieties were resistant to smut and 19 varieties were resistant to red rot. The rest were moderately susceptible or susceptible.
