Andrographis paniculata Wall. ex Nees is highly valued by Chinese and Indonesian people as a medicinal plant for antipyogenesis and antidiarrhea. The plants were extracted continuously with hexane, chloroform, 95 % ethanol and water respectively, and in reverse. The antibacterial activities of these extracts were tested with 3 species of pyogenic bacteria and 10 species of enteropathogenic bacteria. The water extracts from leaves, and from whole plants of both continuous extractions showed the satisfactory growth inhibition of all tested enteropathogenic bacteria. The hexane, chloroform and ethanol extracts from whole plants by the first method of extraction could inhibit growth of all tested pyogenic bacteria. However, the chloroform extract is the most efficient. Furthermore, There are difference in properties between effective extracts to enteropathogenic group and pyogenic group.
