Studies on the effects of placebo (preparation I), of penicillin-streptomycin (Preparation II) and of penicillin-streptomycin + neomycin+prednisolone (Preparation III) on post-parturient sows were conducted in 178 sows from 4 different farms within the same vicinity in Amphuroe Muang, Nakhon Pathom province. The sows were randomly devided into 3 groups: A, B and C, and received Preparation I, II and III respectively on the first day of farrowing. Rectal temperature, swelling of mammary glands and vagina, feed consumption, other clinical signs and piglet mean weight on 7th day were parameter used. Both Preparation II and III could reduce complications usually occured in sows after farrowing and piglet death rate during first 7 days. Preparation III helped significantly in controlling MMA complex.
