Baby corn improvement at Chiang Mai Field Crops Research Center

CMB 8704 variety was the most suitable baby corn variety with high yield components. It gave 365 harvest ears (12.5 sq. meters). 1,143 kg./rai weight of ears with husk, 275 kg./rai weight of ears without husk, 262 standard ears (12.5 sq. meters) and 171 kg./rai weight of standard ears which were higher than standard Rangsit 1 variety 69 %, 24 %, 29 % and 74 % respectively. A similar result was obtained in the RTY that CMB 8700 was also suitable for baby corn variety. It gave the same yield components as CMB 87004 by 1250 ears, 1043 kg./rai, 225 kg./rai and 198 ears and 137 kg./rai which were higher than the standard Rangsit 1 by 39 %, 39 %, 28 % 48 % and 33 % respectively, but these yield components were comparable to those in Suwan 2 variety.
