Efficacy of Curinus coeruleus mulsant (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) for biological control of Leucaena psyllid, Heteropsylla cubana Crawford (Homoptera: Psyllidae) in Thailand
1989
Thotsaporn Maneeratana
In the determination of predation capacity of C. coeruleus using H. cubana and Aphis gossypii as preys, it was noted that both preys could serve as food for C. coeruleus thus enabling the coccinellid to survive during the absence of H. cubana field populations during certain time of the year. It was speculated that other soft-bodied homopterous insects could also serve as alternative preys for C. coeruleus. In the determination of resistance of leucaena plants to H. cubana the life table studies using H. cubana on various leucaena provenances could reveal differential biological attribute values indicating comparable degrees of susceptibility and tolerance. The introduced coccinellid C. coeruleus could be utilized to a satisfactory degree as a biological control agent of H. cubana and it could survive on other preys during the absence of H. cubana, the target pest species.
