Songpol Somsri
Study on the growth of eight scion species cleft grafted on native durian (Durio zibethinus) rootstock was conducted at Plew Horticulture Experimental Station, Amphoe Khlung, Chanthaburi province during the period from December 1985 to December 1986. The rootstocks had about 0.3-0.35 cms. in diameter. Durio graveolens, Durio lowianus from Malaysia and Durio kutejensis had the highest percentage of taking, 76.19 % and Durio sp. and Durio zibethinus var. Cha-nee the lowest, 33.33 % 1.5 months after grafting. After 1 year and 15 days, the last measurement, it was found that Durio graveolens on the native durian rootstock had the highest, 71.43 % and Durio sp. the lowest, 19.08 %. From 1.5 months after grafting the increase in diameter of the graft union of Durio lowianus was the highest, 0.3 cms. or 75 % while 'Cha-nee' variety was the lowest, 0.19 cms. or 44.19 %. The increment of stem diameter, 1" above graft union of Durio mansoni was the highest, 0.39 cms. or 216.67 % while Durio Kutejensis was the lowest, 0.19 cms. or 51.35 %. The length of top of Durio lowianus from Malaysia on native durian (Durio zibethinus) rootstock was the highest, 16.7 cms. and Durio zibethinus var. Cha-nee was the lowest, 9.08 cms. The number of nodes of spineless durian (Durio sp.) was the highest, 11.5 nodes while Durio kutejensis was the lowest, 6.57 nodes.
